Bettertext is a translation and editing service founded in 2018 in Valencia, Spain, specialising in Social Sciences. We seek to improve the style, clarity, and coherence of academic texts while ensuring the original message remains intact.

What services we provide
Academic Translation (ES > EN). Translation of research papers, European project proposals, reports, presentations and book chapters.
In-Depth English Editing. Grammatical, stylistic and structural editing of academic texts. This includes correcting problematic phrasing, adapting to the style required by the client or publication, and adjusting the word limit set by the target journal.
Editing of Machine Translation (PEMT). Revision of texts produced with DeepL, GPT or similar tools. This includes correcting mistranslations and terminology errors, improving sentence structure and readability, and ensuring the text accurately reflects the Spanish original.
Early Draft Support (Guidance for Early-Stage Writing). Support at the early stages of writing to clarify key ideas, improve structure and flow, and strengthen the argument while the text is still flexible. This also helps identify inconsistencies and sections that are unclear or repetitive.
Reference Formatting. Verification of the alignment between in-text citations and the reference list, and adjusting the format to comply with journal guidelines (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.). This includes ensuring DOIs and metadata are complete and identifying any missing or inconsistent references.
Journal Submission Preparation. Assistance in preparing manuscripts for submission, including drafting a cover letter, reviewing the layout of headings, figures and captions, and formatting the references according to journal guidelines (see above). This service does not include language editing.
Academic Presentation Preparation. Online or in-person sessions to help you prepare for academic or professional presentations. Whether you are presenting a project, polishing a conference talk, or preparing for a virtual meeting or interview, these sessions will help you gain fluency and confidence in English for professional or academic settings.
